LOOK: Metro Manila Film Festival 2021’s possible line-up of movie entries

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is the country’s longest-running local film festival that highlights different genres of Filipino films.

This event is an annual celebration that usually opens on Christmas Day, December 25.

As the Metro Manila Film Festival 2021 returns to cinemas this coming Christmas, here are some of the films that are being lined up for this year.

Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan.

When director Chito S. Roño was asked about his bet for the MMFF 2021, he pointed out his mystery-thriller film Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan.

The film is co-produced by Black Sheep Productions and stars Joshua Garcia as Galo.

The film is an adaptation of writer Bob Ong‘s 2016 mystery novel of the same title.

A Hard Day.

This film is a Philippine adaptation of the 2014 South Korean blockbuster hit of the same title.

The adaptation stars Dingding Dantes and John Arcilla and directed by Lawrence Fajardo

It is produced by Viva Films and was supposed to be an official entry for the first Summer Metro Manila Film Festival in 2020.

Deception.

Mark Anthony Fernandez himself announced that his film Deception has a high possibility of being an entry for the MMFF 2021.

Fernandez co-stars with Claudine Barretto. The film is Barretto’s movie comeback after being away from the limelight for more than six years.

Deception is under Joel Lamangan‘s direction and produced by Viva Films with Borracho Entertainment.

Mang Jose, The Movie.

Directed by Raynier Brizuela, Mang Jose is based on the 2005 song by Parokya ni Edgar.

The superhero film stars Janno Gibbs as the titular hero along with Mikoy Morales, Bing Loyzaga, Jerald Napoles, and Manilyn Reynes.

Last year, the MMFF 2020 celebration was forced to move to an online set-up as the film industry struggled with the effects of the pandemic.

This year, the MMFF 2021 will finally return to the cinemas as MMFF Execom spokesperson Noel Ferrer announced that Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in line with the IATF, has approved the event’s gradual return to cinemas.
