Why You Should See It:

After going on hiatus from doing boys’ love for a few months, GMMTV is back in form with the highly anticipated premiere of ‘Bad Buddy’ The Series, which marks the first on-screen team-up of Ohm and Nanon, who are two of the most in-demand young actors in Thailand, today.

Bad Buddy Series is based on the web novel, Behind the Scenes, by Thai author, Afternoon and -West-. It follows the story of childhood neighbors, Pran (Nanon) and Pat (Ohm), whose families have been at war since they were kids. Because of their families’ bitter rivalry in business, Pran and Pat have been pitted against each other, in almost every aspect, by their respective families. Both grew up hearing and seeing their parent compare their sons’ achievements, and go to unnecessary lengths to outdo each other.

Little do their parents know, however, Pran and Pat have started breaking down the barriers their families built between them when they reached 12. There was this accident that involved Pat’s sister, and the only person who was there to help them was Pran. The incident somewhat paved the way for the two to become friends but in secrecy. On the surface, the two continue to act as enemies, but they no longer detest each other. When they become college students, the two are again confronted with their families’ age-long rivalry and their respective gangs’ looming conflict.

As Pat and Pat struggle to remain true to their pretense, their friendship slowly develops into something deeper. Will that lead to a romance? Will the rivalry between their families come to a resolution? The next episodes will surely have the answers.

The series serves as Nanon’s debut to BL roles. He is previously known for his roles in various GMMTV series, including The Gifted, The Blacklist, and My Dear Loser. Ohm, on the other hand, has starred in several popular boys’ love series, already. He previously appeared in the boys’ love dramas, He’s Coming To Me and The Shipper.

For the pilot episode, Bad Buddy Series is definitely off to a good start; that is despite some shortcomings, in terms of the story, which is very predictable and lacking in layers. That said, character and story development in the coming episodes will likely keep fans glued to this series. Nanon and Ohm’s inherent chemistry is also something to watch out for, which may be enough to compensate for what the show lacks.

Bad Buddy airs new episodes every Friday. Original Thai-language and English subbed episodes, stream in the Philippines via iWantTFC, simultaneously with its airing on GMM25 in Thailand. Tagalog-dubbed episodes are also now available on iWantTFC.
