Direk Lauren Dyogi, Roxy Liquigan, Jonathan Manalo recall how they created Star Magic Records

On November 4, during the media conference for Star Magic Records’ launch, Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi, along with ABS-CBN Music head Roxy Liquigan and creative director Jonathan Manalo, shared how they came up with the Kapamilya network’s newest sub-label, Star Magic Records.

“I’d like to express my gratitude on behalf of the Star Magic Family, to Star Music, Roxy, and Jonathan. Because when we brought up the idea of having a sub-label for Star Magic hindi naman na nagdalawang salita sila Jonathan at si Roxy. 

“They were very accommodating and very welcoming of growth and the possibilities of expanding our artists into the recording genre. 

“Pinagusapan lamang namin ‘to a few months back and then all of the sudden, before the end of the year mayroon na tayong ganon.”

Liquigan added details to Dyogi’s recollection of their talk and cited their aim of introducing Filipino music globally.

“Sabi namin Direk anong kailangan mo na help from us. So inisa-isa namin lahat nung artists ng Star Music, Star Pop, DNA, Tarsier. And then, na-discuss na lang namin na bakit hindi tayo magkaroon ng Star Magic Records. We we’re so happy about it and then let’s plan na.

“It’s a label. It’s a platform for different artists because there are a lot of /different artists sa Star Magic and ‘yun din naman ‘yung dream ni Lauren are to discover and develop artists for the global stage. And, perfect ‘yung Star Magic because organized na ‘yung group eh.”

Manalo noted that the launch of multiple music labels under ABS-CBN Music signifies their expansion.

“Lumalaki ‘yung ating family sa ABS-CBN Music ecosystem. Ayun nga pinaguusapan namin ni Direk Lauren and sir Roxy na adding Star Magic Records as one of the labels under ABS-CBN Music, mas lumalaki lang ‘yung music universe ng ABS-CBN. And, more opportunities for talents for ABS-CBN na mabigyan ng opportunities sa kanilang recording career.”

Dyogi compared Star Magic and Star Magic Records to a prism that enhances their artists.

“When we were doing the brand essence of Star Magic Records, I think it came out of the brainstorming. I mentioned na Star Magic is a medium na wherein when there’s a white light that goes through Star Magic, it becomes a collection of colors.

“So parang ano lang ‘yan, one artist, you come in, and you don’t realize it, through the enhancement of Star Magic and all the other platforms. You are able to discover a lot of your talents.”

Star Magic Records launched on November 4 with their flagbearer artist, AC Bonifacio, and her single, Fool No Mo. Bonifacio’s single started streaming worldwide on November 5 on all digital platforms.
