Vilma Santos recalls Luis Manzano-Jessy Mendiola’s engagement, wedding

On September 7, the Star for All-Seasons Vilma Santos recalled Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola’s engagement and wedding during her interview via her son’s (Lucky) vlog.

Santos detailed how Mendiola messaged her to confirm the engagement.

“One night noong biglang nagtext sa akin si Jess. Na hindi ko pa alam eh, nagtext sa akin si Jess, ‘Hi Momskie.’ May picture naka ganyan. Nagsend ka (Jessy) ng picture naka ganyan ‘yung kamay niya. 

“Ano kaya itong pinakitang ito ni Jess. Bakit kaya pinakita niya ‘yung kamay. Inulit ulit ko, sabi ko, ‘may singsing?’

“Tapos biglang nagtext ka ulit Jess na, ‘Mom I have the ring. I’m engaged.’ And then tumawag ako sa inyo na, ‘Anak, totoo ba ito? Engage na talaga anak?”

She then described the excitement she felt.

“I was so excited kasi nagkaroon ka ng isang final decision na this is the woman na handa na akong tumanda na kasama siya. 

“First time as a mom na naeksperyansa ko po na napakitaan niya ako at sinabi niya sa akin na mayroon na siyang binigyan ng engagement ring. Because engagement is a commitment.”

After that, Santos detailed her reaction during Luis and Jessy’s wedding.

“Parang iniisip ko ba na totoo na ba ito? Totoo na ikakasal na ‘yung anak ko? Tapos tinitignan kita, tinignan ko si Ralph, tinignan ko ‘yung Daddy mo. Tapos reaction ko sa Dad mo, “Totoo na? Ikakasal na si Lucky?”

“Tapos noong tumingin ako sa iyo, ‘yon na ‘yung umiiyak ka anak. Feel na feel ko, ang pangit mo nga lang umiyak. Pero ramdam na ramdam ko. Tapos nakatingin siya sayo.”

She then shared marriage advice with her son. 

The multi-awarded actress-turned politician noted that Luis and Jessy’s entire marriage would be an adjustment period and that the key to strengthening their marriage is respect.

“Alam mo nothing is perfect. Sa marriage walang perpekto. Hindi rin totoo na lahat ay roses. Marami pa kayong dadaanang pagsubok. 

“Ito na lang importante, kasi sabi nila, ‘Oh kasi, kasal na kayo. The first three years, it will be an adjustment period.’ 

“No such thing, na first three years is an adjustment. The whole time of the relationship is adjustment. Habang nagkakaedad kayo, umiiba ‘yung mga priorities niyo sa buhay. 

“Ang magpapatibay lang niyan, it’s not even love. It’s respect, sa partner mo. And when you respect your partner, everything follows.” 

Luis proposed to Jessy in December 2020, and they tied the knot in April of 2021. The couple has been together since 2016 and celebrated their fifth anniversary on June 25, 2021.
