Loyal Kapuso viewers are treated last Saturday with a fresh offering. Filled with light romance and heartwarming ‘kilig’, The Thin Line Between, brings for the first time, former Walang Tulugan with Kuya Germs mainstays, Sanya Lopez and Ken Chan, as a love team. The episode serves as the maiden offering under the new romance drama anthology, Regal Studio Presents, a landmark collaborative project between entertainment giants, GMA Network and Regal Entertainment.

Both being groomed as the Kapuso Network’s next big stars, Chan and Lopez, look perfectly made for each other, as they create palpable chemistry onscreen. In ‘That Thin Line Between’, the story is focused on Gemma Rose (Lopez) and Julius (Chan), who are neighbors with very opposite personalities. This polarity causes friction between them, especially when both their siblings start getting close to each other. That same opposing characteristics, however, are what will get them to know each other better. As the saying goes ‘opposites attract, and Gemma Rose and Julius are no exception.

For their debut pairing, Ken and Sanya look visually appealing. Their visual chemistry adds up to their seemingly inherent romantic charm, which is more than enough to compensate for the script’s predictability. Chan undoubtedly has the upper hand in terms of acting, but Lopez, who just starred in her first leading teleserye, First Yaya, can pretty well handle and meet her new leading man’s acting chops, too.

That Thin Line Between feels more than satisfying for a pilot episode. Its arrival to weekend primetime, especially on GMA Network, is a breath of fresh air. Local TV audiences have long been bombarded with either heavy drama anthologies (GMA alone has several drama anthologies on weekends) or magazine shows, and Regal Studio Presents is a welcome change.
