Why You Should See It:
The new Thai series streaming on iWantTFC is full of sweetness and warmth, but it is filled with mysteries, too. Featuring one of Thailand’s most popular actors–Prachaya Ruangroj, or simply Singto.
Baker Boys follows the adventures of four male protagonists working at a pastry shop in Bangkok.
Punn (Lee) is the lone son of a Thai billionaire. He is a known womanizer who hates sweets. One day he puts up a bakery business to lure beautiful girls. He hires the flirty chef, Weir (Singto), who claims he can make any guy—gay or straight—fall in love with him. He is allergic to girls, but it’s him whom girls will eventually return to the shop for. Weir convinces Punn to hire the sweets-loving ex-boxer Krathing (Pluem), who loves baking so much. Meanwhile, Punn’s clumsy personal bodyguard, Pooh (Foei) wanders around the shop in secrecy, to protect his ‘young master’.
On their opening day, a police investigation puts their bakery under the spotlight. A young girl who has been missing for days–found dead near the location of the shop. The key evidence suggests that the perpetrator was a customer of the newly-opened store.
Baker Boys marks Singto’s last project as a GMMTV talent, as he has left the talent and production agency, in April. This is also the third series he starred in that local streaming service, iWantTFC, is offering to its users.
The most interesting part of the series is arguably the relationship of the four boys, as the controversy about the allegedly murdered kid puts them to test.
Singto has no problem flexing his charm, as he did in past boys’ love series, SOTUS, He’s Coming To Me, and the heartwarming drama I’m Tee, Me Too. Here, he finds ease pulling off Weir’s adorable antics as he makes Weir’s flirtatious moves on Punn, endearingly hilarious and filled with ‘kilig’.
Lee is similarly comfortable being the extra-confident Punn, while Pluem, who delighted viewers in My Dear Loser: Edge of 17 and Our Sky, seemingly turns his character, Krathing, to a charming piece of dessert.
