Paulo Avelino defends Jake Cuenca from bashers after police chase

Paulo Avelino defended his friend Jake Cuenca after being arrested after a car chase with the police on Saturday evening, October 9.

Accordingly, Cuenca’s black Jeep Wrangler hit a police vehicle in Barangay Barangka Ibaba, Mandaluyong, while the cops underwent a buy-bust operation.

Cuenca did not stop his vehicle, which led to a police chase that even involved an innocent delivery guy being hit by a stray bullet.

Although netizens bashed Cuenca for his reckless driving, Paulo Avelino defended his friend in a series of Twitter posts.

Avelino explained that the policemen were wearing civilian clothes while shooting at Cuenca’s car.

“I wouldn’t stop for anyone shooting my vehicle wearing civilian clothes. Pass through a checkpoint? Hinarang ba? If someone was shooting me it’s either I shoot back or run for my life. Wrong place wrong time,” he said.

He then added that people should fact-check information before posting online.

“Mauna sa balita bida ngayon. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND KNOW THE TRUTH BEFORE YOU POST,” he said.

He even replied to one netizen who asked if Cuenca was drunk. Avelino explained that Cuenca was sober, even if he might have drunk a little bit of liquor.

“Drunk? No. Nakainom? Maybe. Nakasagasa ba? Nakasakit ng tao? Hindi. Walang malay na nagmamaneho papunta dito sa punyeta kong bahay dahil kaka-recover ko lang sa covid,” he said.

Cuenca was supposed to visit Avelino in his house as the latter had just recovered from the COVID-19.

Avelino said he would also do the same thing as what Cuenca did for him. He said that he would still take care of the people he loves despite the risk of acquiring the virus.

“Same thing I would do for someone I love. If you get Covid, then F it. I wouldn’t care If I get it too. I’m taking care of you whether I get it or not. If I die due to covid, I’ll be happy I did it for someone I love,” he said.

According to the Eastern Police District, Cuenca was already brought to the Mandaluyong Police Station, where he was charged with a case of disobedience and reckless imprudence.
