Michele Gumabao Explains Why She joined Mocha Uson in Party List

Professional athlete-turned-beauty queen Michele Gumabao explained her reason as to why she joined Mocha Uson in her party list, Mothers for Change (MOCHA).

In an interview with CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk on October 18, Gumabao said that their advocacies aligned—Uson for mothers, and hers with teenage moms and women in general.

“And it’s like the same story. When I met her around two years ago, we sort of connected on a level of experience na rin of what we’ve been through especially with family.

“I mentioned earlier that I’m the ambassador of KKDAT, Kabataan Kontra Droga and Terrorismo that’s directly under the PNP and the government and also Magdalena which is a women’s group.”

“We’ve always been working for the past two years with Mothers for Change and this has been led by Mocha.

“And when she put up her party list running for a seat in Congress, we wanted to join forces to really just synergize all of our advocacies—her with mothers, me with the youth; coming in for teenage moms as well, and also for all women. We are advocating for all women here.”

Gumabao also defended Uson, who was being dubbed as the “Queen of Fake News.”

“I’ve shared the sentiment of the general public when I first met her. But that’s the thing, we only believe what we see on media/social media.

“More than fake news, and back with what I said in 2018, being responsible with what you report, you also have to make it a point to see what’s the truth by going out there and meeting the person.

“By actually confirming what you’re reading online. That’s what I did, I asked her questions straight up,” explained Gumabao.

She pointed that she directly asked Uson about the news against her and when the latter explained, Gumabao said, “That’s when we get past the scrutiny of the public.”

With regards to the reactions they received after joining forces, Gumabao noted: “It’s normal when you don’t know the person and that’s why I also have it in me to respect all these people saying negative and positive things on social media. Because at the end of the day, they only know what they see on social media.”

Recently, Gumabao’s decision to join MOCHA was met by criticism which she addressed in her Instagram post on October 13.
