Aiko Melendez shuts off bashers, expresses support for ABS-CBN’s possible reopening in 2022

On her October 5 post, actress Aiko Melendez shut off bashers questioning her support for ABS-CBN’s possible franchise renewal and reopening in 2022.

On her facebook account, Melendez presented several talking points about her expression of support. She then argued that many would benefit from the Network’s reopening because of the jobs it can provide amid the pandemic.

She then explained that despite her transfer to GMA network, she has always felt for her friends in ABS-CBN who lost their jobs. She also revealed that the GMA network does not suppress her right to express her support to its competitor.

She then recounted how ABS-CBN helped her find projects, reiterating to the public not to remove her right to support her previous Network.

Melendez recently filed her candidacy for City Councilor of the Fifth District of Quezon City.

The actress-turned-politician has a background in politics since she served as a Councilor for QC from 2001 to 2010.

Before she decided to run as Councilor, Melendez had plans to run for Congress.

If she pursued the government post, she would have been up against Councilor Patrick Michael ‘PM’ Vargas, who is the brother of Alfred Vargas. Coincidentally, Alfred Vargas abstained from voting in Congress during the hearing for ABS-CBN franchise renewal in 2020.

Melendez revealed that she sacrificed her upcoming project in GMA Network for the second season of Primadonnas.

She then listed some of her projects, such as movies and endorsements, before she filed her candidacy for the 2022 elections.

Melendez also went into her experience in governance to highlight her qualification as a City Councilor.

She then urged people to respect each other’s politics and not burn bridges over polarized political views.
