DJ Loonyo admits he didn’t plan on becoming a recording artist

On August 31, DJ Loonyo admitted that he didn’t plan on becoming a recording artist during his interview with RAWR Nation.

Loonyo recalled how he became a recording artist, noting that he was waiting for the right moment.

“No as in, wala po talaga sa utak ko ‘yun sir. Before sa Rockstars ko pa na grupo, matagal na nila akong pinupush na mag-rap gumagawa na kami ng track before. Kaso hindi ko talaga tibok.

“Last year, nag-decide ako na to challenge myself i-conquer ‘yung fear ko. At the same time, parang mag-grow din as an artist. Kumbaga as DJ talaga sir malawak din talaga ‘yung crates ko when it comes to music. Sabi ko why not.”

He then remembered his journey towards signing with Universal Records Philippines.

“Last Year nasa China pa ako. May nag-message sa akin na kakilala ko na connected to Universal Records na they want to set up a meeting or something like that.

He noted that the recording label knows how to take care of their artists.

“When it comes to Universal Records, iba talaga sila mag-alaga. At the same time, Pinapakinggan talaga nila ‘yung artist.”

Loonyo currently has two singles under Universal Records Philippines. They are the summer vibe song Under The Sun and the front liners tribute song Kaya Natin ‘To.

Loonyo shared behind-the-scenes details of producing his two singles.

“‘Yun po talaga ‘yung punto ng Under the Sun eh. Kasi last year, hindi natin na-enjoy ‘yung summer di ba.

“‘Yung kantang ‘to it’s not about kung ano ‘yung mga ginawa nila. It’s about saying thank you to them for all of their sacrifices. So pure acknowledgement lang talaga ‘yung ‘Kaya Natin To.'”

Loonyo gained popularity through social media, which led to him breaking into the mainstream media. Aside from his record label deal with Universal Records, he is also a Head Hunter in TV5’s Pop Pinoy.
